Dane County Dems election news
November 14, 2007
The Democratic Party of Dane County is holding elections tonight.
Russell Wallace dropped off over 40 new memberships ($10/piece) to the Dane County Democratic Party last night, just before the deadline to ensure he will have a healthy majority in the race against Wayne Bigelow. A typical PDesque way to ensure victory.
An email from Russell:
There’s going to be a very significant change regarding the Dane Dems elections tomorrow night. Eligible voters will be able to walk in, vote, and leave immediately anytime from the start of the meeting at 7:00 PM until voting ends at probably 7:45 or 8:00.
Wayne Bigelow is jamming through this rule change at the last minute to try to pick up votes from Capitol staffers who wouldn’t show up to vote if they actually had to sit through part of a meeting. But we can take advantage of it as well.
As I mentioned before, I’m supporting Russell, but I’ll happily observe that the party needs someone who wants to win, and both Russell and Wayne obviously fit the bill (they are also both solid progressives, and the election has much more to do with differing styles of leadership than with any policy differences).
Which of these two GOTV maneuvers is more democratic, and more likely to result in a bigger, better, and more grassroots Democratic Party is left as an exercise to the reader.

I’ve let my Dem membership lapse. I know the best way to change things is to do it from within, but I’ve just become so sad that I need to argue some points with people that say they are dems that it’s just not worth showing up for the fight anymore. Still send in my ACLU dues every year though
