Crickets chirping

August 8, 2008

I have very little to say about the presidential race.

Barack Obama’s ideological temperament seems close to my own. His policy ideas are about as sound as one can reasonably expect. And his political skills are so good that it’s fun to watch, in the same way that it’s fun to watch someone who is very good at a video game. I’m going to vote for him.

John McCain has wisely stopped talking about how we need to stay in Iraq until no more soldiers are being killed, and then stay there for another hundred years. But sadly, he now has nothing at all to say about anything. I’m not going to vote for him.

On another note, and in response to questions from a few commenters, I have discovered why comments are sometimes being shut off on recent posts, but I haven’t yet figured out how to stop it. It sometimes happens when incredibly dumb spammers try to post comments which consist of thousands of commented-out hyperlinks. This is pointless, since no one will see the spam, and no search engine will index it, but it does seem to throw WordPress for a loop. I turn the comments back on whenever I notice them turned off, but some manual intervention is required.

Good to see you’re not dead. Maybe you could add one of those weird image things to prevent comment spammers, like what blogger uses.
