Sarah Palin, liar
September 4, 2008
An incomplete list of things we know about Sarah Palin:
In both of her big campaign speeches, she repeatedly lied about opposing the bridge to nowhere.
As mayor, she tried to ban books from the public library, and then tried to fire the librarian who wouldn’t go along with her.
As mayor, she fired the police chief for not supporting her election campaign.
As governor, she tried to fire her ex-brother-in-law from his job as a state trooper. When it became public, she lied about it.
As governor, she fired the state’s chief of police when he wouldn’t go along with her plan to fire her ex-brother-in-law. When it became public, she lied about it.
Oh, and she opposes birth control, even for married couples, and she opposes abortion, even in the case of rape or incest. She doesn’t believe in global warming, and she wants to teach creationism in our schools.
Also, the GOP believes that her 18 months as governor of Alaska means she is more experienced (executive experience is the only kind that matters!) than John McCain.
In other words, she’s an extremely conservative liar who likes to abuse the power of government for her own personal ends. After eight years of Dick Cheney, that’s vice-presidential change we can believe in.

She certainly knows how to fire up the faithful, though. She is kind of like a brunette Ann Coulter without an Adams apple and with smaller hands.
It is abundantly clear that she is there to placate the far right wing of the R-team. That it needs placating is a bit of mystery to me, but it seems that she is cast in that role. Any chance that a sane woman that supported Hillary would vote for her as the closer on the McCain ticket is infinitesimal. Policy trumps ovaries when it comes to her outrageously reactionary policies. It is snarky to note, but I think within the bounds of propriety, that the “family values” that she espouses are not necessarily the ones she practices. Since when is humiliating her preggers daughter and her shotgun hubby-to-be on national TV is the stuff of good mothering. Young Levi has got to be wondering if the 10 minutes in the back seat of the Chevy was worth all the shit that has rained on him.
All that is mostly a sideshow, though. What this really says is that McCain is no more serious about good, functioning, government than Bush is. They both put way too much trust in their demonstrably poor gut-guessing ability. Whatever became of carefully hiring the best person you can find to be part of your government? I find it amazing cynical of the R-team to rail about how bad government is by dint of it’s very existence and then stock it with as many incompetents as they can find to prove their point. Real patriots would work to make it better. They don’t seem to grok that point though.
So they trot out this hyper-patriotic, “family Values”, anti-evolution, Pentecostal, nut-case for VP. Oy! How does that do anything to deal with the enormous mess that Dubya has left. (News Flash…He just left for a 4-day weekend in Camp David. Way too busy to go to the Republican Convention, I guess).
I am really weary of all of the transparently bad policy that they fob off as the will of God, or Adam Smith or even the saintly Lord Ronnie. It is interesting to not that all of them are dead, as is the future of the Republican party.

I agree with you Ben, I just don’t think it’s going to matter. I think we’re just going to have to come to terms with the fact that Republicans are better at this than Democrats. They’re better at running. They’re better at smearing their opponent. They’re better at changing the subject. They’re better at ignoring reality. And what I mean is, they’re better at getting the electorate to buy what they’re selling. Logic arguments work with people who respect logic, and have time to hear the arguments and think about the problems. It’s just that the number of people who do those two things, and VOTE simply aren’t enough. Republicans are simply better at isolating the reptile brain of the voters, and appealing to it.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the apathy of voters, or their distrust of government. I mean, I see how people could buy the “I’m a Republican, I think there should be less government, we pay too much for too little, I think we should get rid of most of it,” but when you have someone running the government who hates the government, nothing works. Or worse, the parts of government with the most potential for misuse are strengthened (domestic intelligence, the military etc) while the areas with the most potential to do good are stripped of their resources (schools, job training, unemployment training, health care) as we have seen in the past 8 years.

Ok Ben let me set some things straight. With the book thing those books were all released after she left office. When it comes to the Firing situation there is nothing of any substance behind it.I don’t really see anything wrong with changing your mind about a bridge you don’t really need.
I am personally happy she opposes the murder of Babies and that she want’s both sides of the creation of our world taught in our schools. Is there really something wrong with having doubts about the belief we are destroying our planet and thinking that our climate is constantly changing and that change is natural?

both sides of the creation of our world taught in our schools.
Sure, when churches allow me to teach Darinism in their Sunday schools.
